Sometimes you become stressed and life seems unbearable; you think of giving up on your dreams and life itself because it seems the whole world is against your possibilities. Sometimes your positive energy seems dried up and you are on the verge of surrendering. But hey, don’t forget: you are alive; you are blessed. Reflect on this; reflect on your life.
One thing that gives me unlimited hope is life. Why? I know I am blessed, not because I have all the riches in the world. I say I am blessed because I can still use my brain and mind, and everything I think of doing is possible. My future is in my hands, and God will not fail me. I focus on the future, not the past. My past is just a memory, but I know it will be part of my story, my history and posterity will refer to it and tell the story of how I overcame. Failure may knock at my door, but it will not be my guest; it will not hold my future.
You are alive, that is your first blessing. You are alive, and with life you are better off than the dead. The Bible says, “A living dog is better than a dead lion.” You are alive, and you are better off than a dead prince or princess. You have opportunities, but the dead do not. You can make amends to your life and expectations, but the dead cannot. So when things become very difficult or the road to your dreams becomes rough like an untarred road, let life inspire you to keep hope alive.
Your second blessing is that you can think and you can apply your brain. Many people today seek miracles upon miracles, forgetting that they themselves are miracles. Many refuse to reflect on their possibilities and chase after miracles alone. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in miracles, but I also believe they are God’s interventions in human life. However, God has empowered us with brains, and to achieve our dreams we need knowledge. A brain equipped with knowledge is the first thing we must apply to make meaningful changes in our individual lives and societies. Those who use their brain potential can achieve the greatest of their dreams. I agree with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that “the mind is a terrible thing to waste.” When you use your mind and apply knowledge, you can achieve your dreams despite the challenges you face.
You are blessed if you can dream. Dreams drive life, and those who can dream live successful and fulfilling lives. A dreamless person is like someone on a journey without a destination. A friend once illustrated this with the example of an aimless youth who wakes up, takes a stroll without direction, meets a friend going fishing and follows him. But on their way, he meets another friend going to play football and decides to play football instead. This is how life becomes without a dream. Dreams shape our focus and relevance, and those who refuse to dream live aimless and unfulfilled lives. Therefore, as long as you are alive, never stop dreaming; dreams reveal our life’s focus and shape our future.
Never stop working toward your dreams, despite the challenges you face. Every dreamer must know that daily effort makes dreams possible. A dream without action is no dream. At the launch of my vision in 2009, one of my mentors told me, “Vision works with direction, and sometimes, when working toward your vision, you must change direction if you face challenges but never give up on the dream.” Some people give up on their dreams when confronted with challenges. If you do that, you cannot achieve your purpose and may end up like the aimless person who follows the wind without direction.
I must say I have failed before; even though it wasn’t about a life dream, I know how it felt. It was as though my whole life had come to an end. I wanted to give up, but my inner man pushed me to persist and I am still standing. What I want you to understand is that there is an inner man, an inner voice that speaks anytime you are down, and it never fails. This inner man knows your aspirations and desires; it reminds you of your strengths, not your weaknesses. It tells you to have faith and not to give up. It doesn’t consider the storms before you but the power within you to fulfill your dreams and possibilities.
There is another voice I call the outer voice. It mostly draws your attention to the world around you rather than your strengths. Sometimes it compares you to others and discourages you. Other times it emphasizes your vulnerabilities instead of your abilities. The difference is that your inner voice is positive, while the outer voice is negative. So today, I encourage you: listen to your inner voice rather than the outer voice which often encourages you to give up. Though storms and waves may rise before you, you can weather them and achieve your goals, if you do not give up.
In the end, failure knocks at everybody’s door, and it will knock at your door at some point. Nevertheless, don’t allow it to be your guest. Success and fulfillment are on their way. Don’t throw in the towel when you face challenges. Focus your mind on your dream destination and put your hands to work, success and fulfillment will come.
You are alive; you are blessed. You can think and dream. Never give up. Keep working on your dream. You are alive, be positive and keep hope alive.
